We do like the fact LAN, USB, and eSATA connectors for connecting with PC and adding external discs are provided, but we must keep in mind one thing and that is the fact data transfer ratio of these devices aren't impressive. The fastest way is to use eSATA interface while USB and LAN lagging behind so it will take up to 20 minutes to copy one DVD. However, this cannot be taken as a shortcoming because the main role of this device is working with multimedia files and NMP-1000 is great for that. Its price isn't small but it is very hard to find another device like this at the market offering so much functions and providing solid work.

The new generation of NAS shows a big improvement in the hardware -CPU and RAM Memory -, which reflects in the performance. Likewise the new user interface is easier to manage, where all the option are easily to locate. The possibility to use the NAS as a Printer Server and to make it work with External Storage Devices is also very practical . Using the "one touch backup button" , one can transfer automatically all the content previously selected in the NAS to the external storage device or viceversa. The support of Hot swapping hard disks is also very important.

The quantity of functions and options of the SS-439 Pro is amazing and can be suitable not only for SMBs but also for SOHO users. It is an extraordinary tool because its FTP Server service, web server with pHp and MySQL support as well as the possibility to work in multiple OS environments as Windows, Linux and Mac. The administration menu can allow us to create alerts, see system logs and to have a Gigalan Network with double interface which allow transfer rates very surprising including even the Load balancing support.  The download service is another very important feature that allow to downloand content thorugh http, ftp and bt.
We have everything what is needed wth the QNAP SS-439 PRO: FTP Server, Download Station, our own Web Server with database access, etc. All in all, a mini-server with multiples services, secure, solid, and above all easy to set up.

I'm overall really pleased to have tested this product. It has supplied-surprise- real good results in a power which is to be neglected. Build quality is top notch, a lot of processing power and a small power consumption is primarily what you get with this NAS. It will not, unfortunately, Editor's Choice Award because it costs too much. but it has truly earned Great Product Award.
