TeleComputing (Norway)

TeleComputing deploys three units of QNAP Turbo NAS to improve cloud computing services.

“QNAP Turbo NAS have been integrated smoothly into our multiple environment datacentres and virtualization platforms,” - Bjorn Andersson, senior consultant at TeleComputing.

Company Background:

TeleComputing has been a leading provider of centralised IT operation services and net-based software distribution since 1997. With Europe’s largest and most modern shared IT operation platform, TeleComputing offers 2,400 different software solutions to more than 50,000 users, enabling SMB users to enjoy quality and secure IT access which normally only large international enterprises can afford. The vision of TeleComputing is to offer users complete and high-quality IT solutions at a competitive price.

Challenges:

All of the centralised IT solutions TeleComputing provided were composed of multiple environment datacentres with different virtualization platforms: VMware® and Citrix® XenServer™. Virtualization platforms create a virtual machine that simulates a real computer with an operating system. Based on a virtualization platform, TeleComputing deployed five units of domain controllers and three units of Microsoft® file servers as the central directory system, providing their users with access to TeleComputing’s several software outsourcing services and IT applications easily. The services available through this net-based application are enabled by cloud computing, which enables the delivery of information across end-users’ devices over the network. While the cloud computing services could seamlessly integrate and work within users' devices, TeleComputing found they needed extra infrastructure to assure that all of the IT operation platforms could work reliably and securely. In other words, TeleComputing required more effective physical servers to deploy and maintain their virtual machines. Another issue that TeleComputing had to address was that many of the physical servers were reaching the end of their life cycle and some of them had even failed to function at the minimum standard required for daily operation.

Solutions:

TeleComputing deployed three QNAP Turbo TS-809U-RP units that feature an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.8GHz processor and 2GB DDRII memory. Among the three units, two are used as storage solutions to store image files from the datacentre, and the other one is deployed as backup, supporting complete protection of the datacentre. With Microsoft® DFS, the three QNAP units also provide a full disaster recovery solution with offsite replication of all image files.

Benefits:

Striving for better reliability and security as a leading centralised IT services provider, TeleComputing upgraded their physical equipment to improve their services in the virtual environment. Now, all of the virtual servers have the same configuration. This helps IT administrators save time on maintaining operations and permits systems to roll back to the status of an earlier time within minutes in case the update process fails. The high reliability and disaster-proofing of the QNAP Turbo NAS qualified it as the best solution for TeleComputing. With QNAP Turbo NAS, TeleComputing has built a strong configuration for end-users to enjoy better availability of cloud services.
